Breast Pump Flange Fit Test
Service Description
Why It Matters The breast pump flange should match the size of your nipple (not the whole areola). A poorly fitted flange can cause: Pain or nipple damage Poor milk output Blocked ducts or engorgement How to Check the Fit Center the nipple in the tunnel of the flange. During pumping, the nipple should move freely without rubbing hard against the sides. A small amount of areola may move into the tunnel, but not too much. You shouldn’t see: Excessive pulling of the areola Whitening/blanching of the nipple Pain or pinching After pumping: Nipple should look about the same as before (not swollen, cracked, or misshaped). Breast should feel softer, with milk removed efficiently. Typical Sizes Standard pump flanges are 21–27 mm internal diameter, but many people need smaller or larger sizes. The right size depends on your nipple diameter (in mm) plus a little extra room.
